When construction started on their Citrus County Florida dream home, Bob and Judy Cohen were 1500 miles away. They'd seen a brand-new model home and asked Chuck Sanders to build them one just like it - except could he please push out this wall, move that wall over, use tray ceilings in both the living and dining rooms, replace the stucco exterior with brick, put the summer kitchen here instead of there, replace niches with a real closet, and turn those sliding glass doors into a partial wall.
And one more little thing, please remove those Mediterranean-style columns in the entryway so the home felt more comfortable for the born-and-bred "Maniacs" from Portland.
"Whatever we asked him to do, he said 'no problem,' and then he took care of it," Judy recalls. "There wasn't a single detail he didn't personally take an interest in. We talked almost every day, discussing everything from the progress they'd made to whether we should use potter's tile or something more glossy in the master bath."

At the same time, Sanders was very professional about making those changes, adds Bob, an attorney who now works as an investment and insurance counselor. "Chuck documented every change in writing, so we knew exactly what was going on and how much it was going to cost."
Nine years later, the one-time snowbirds have settled in Florida year-round to enjoy warm weather, the laid-back lifestyle and a home that suits them perfectly. "It was the first house we'd ever built, and we'd do it again," Bob said. "Chuck made it a wonderful experience because he's the kind of person whose word is his bond and his handshake is as good as a contract."
