Southern Florida's MLB team. April 5, 1993 - before a sellout crowd at Joe Robbie Stadium, Charlie Hough delivers the first pitch in Florida Marlins history. October 26, 1997. With a two-out single in the 11th inning of Game Seven, the Florida Marlins are transformed from Expansion Team to World Series Champions. Currently the Marlins are re-building but the future is predicted to be bright. Enjoying a Marlins game is only a few hours drive.
The Panthers joined the NHL in time for the 1993-94 season. This year the Florida Panthers are celebrating their 10th anniversary in the NHL. If that weren't enough, the NHL All-Star game is scheduled to be held right here in South Florida. The team is competitive, the action is fast and you will certainly enjoy watching some "cool" hockey games here in "hot" Florida. A weekend game in Ft. Lauderdale is a great trip from your new home here in Citrus County, Florida.
North Florida's NFL team. The Jacksonville Jaguars are the most successful expansion franchise in the history of the National Football League. Since entering the league in 1995, the Jaguars have been to the playoffs four times and played in the AFC Championship game twice. The Jaguars won 49 games in their first five seasons, including an NFL-best record of 14-2 in 1999. Winners of two AFC Central Division championships, the Jaguars have the highest winning percentage of the 31 teams in the NFL.
Southern Florida's NFL team. A perennial contender with a long and glorious history. Seems like the Dolphins are always in the running for the SuperBowl. There are plenty of Dolphin fans here in Citrus County. A Sunday trip to Miami to watch them play in person is a great trip and always exciting. Plenty of other attractions in and around Miami. Before or after the game, do some shopping, site seeing or enjoy some fine cuisine.
Southern Florida's NBA team. The Miami Heat came into the NBA for the 1988-89 season. After spending its first few years in the cellar, the franchise began to make progress thanks to a series of shrewd draft selections. Although the Heat failed to achieve a winning season during their first five campaigns, the team stayed close to the break-even point and made it into the playoffs faster than any of its expansion peers. In recent years, the Heat is usually quite competetive. On January 1, 2000, the Miami HEAT moved into South Florida's premier waterfront showplace: the AmericanAirlines Arena. The Arena holds 20,500 basketball fans.
The Orlando Magic joined the NBA for the 1989-90 season. The franchise had only a brief period of adjustment before establishing itself as a contender. With the drafting of center Shaquille O'Neal in 1992, the Magic became instantly competitive and one of the league's most popular teams. Recently, the Orlando Magic, led by Head Coach Doc Rivers, advanced to the NBA Playoffs for the second straight season and seventh time in the last nine campaigns. Orlando completed the 2001-02 season with a 44-38 record, marking the 10th consecutive time they finished with at least a .500 mark. Today they are a very competetive team, attending a Magic game is very exciting and entertaining.
Central Florida's NFL team. Times are good for Buc fans. Recent years have seen a very good team and a new coach now has enthusiasm level very high. Known for many years as a good defensive team, now the offense shows signs of contributing. Playoffs and Super Bowl conversations are spreading. The stadium is full and attending Bucaneer games has become an exciting and enjoyable experience.
Central Florida's MLB team. Historically the Rays have not done well, but once again there is new hope and a new plan. The Devil Rays expect to be a much more competetive and entertaining team this year. Although the Devil Rays are the first Major League Baseball team to host regular season games in the area, Tampa Bay's big league roots go back more than 85 years. The area has a very rich professional and amateur baseball history. More major league spring training games have been played in St. Petersburg than in any other city. Frequent promotions make attending a Rays game a very good family value.
Central Florida's NHL team. Though a relative newcomer to the NHL, the Tampa Bay Lightning have had many memorable moments during their first ten seasons in the league. Brian Bellows and Alexander Selivanov scoring back-to-back overtime goals in game two and game three of the 1996 Stanley Cup Playoffs, NHL Playoff Attendance Records, NHL Regular Season Attendance Records and the opening of the Ice Palace (now, the St. Pete Times Forum), just to name a few. You can enjoy exciting hockey today. The team is becoming competetive and the games are very entertaining.
